Here at Cooling Unlimited, we install furnaces every day. It’s nothing new to us! We’re accustomed to putting all sorts of heating systems into all kinds of homes, navigating any challenges that come up with ease. But for a homeowner, furnace installation probably only happens once every fifteen or twenty years. How could you possibly know everything you need to know about it?
Don’t worry. Of course you have questions. And we’ve got you covered! We answer questions like these all the time. Do I need a new furnace, or is it still reasonable to have this old one repaired? How long does furnace installation take? What can I do to make sure it goes smoothly? We’ll explain everything. If you have any other questions about furnace installations in Wilmington, MA, we’d love to hear from you.
Should I Repair or Replace My Furnace?
There are several factors to weigh as you decide whether the time has come for a new furnace. If your furnace is not very old, doesn’t often need repairs, has been maintained every year, and seems to be just as efficient as ever, it’s probably worth repairing. Even investing a good chunk of money in a repair is reasonable if it might keep your furnace going for several more years.
However, when things lean in the other direction, repairs are probably not worthwhile. If your furnace is getting old, needs frequent small repairs, hasn’t had consistent maintenance, or seems to be using more energy and driving up your utility bills despite maintenance, those are all factors that push the needle toward furnace replacement.
How Long Will My Furnace Installation Appointment Take?
Again, there are a variety of factors that can lead to quite different answers. Do you need any preparatory work done? This is likely if you are switching from electric to gas and need a gas line connection, or if your ductwork is badly damaged and needs to be replaced, for example. If so, furnace installation will probably require more than one appointment.
If it’s a straightforward replacement, one old furnace being removed and a new one of the same type being installed, it will almost definitely be done in less than a day. We always recommend that you plan to be available for the whole day. Installation can take 8 hours. But in many cases, it can take substantially less time.
What Can I Do to Make My Furnace Installation Go Smoothly?
To increase your odds of having a quicker, easier installation appointment, you can be as prepared as possible. That way, when your technicians arrive, they’ll be able to get to work very quickly, rather than having to do a lot of preparation.
Start by considering where the installation techs will park their truck, and which door will be easiest to maneuver appliances through and access the furnace area from. Clear the way! Move any clutter, indoors and out, that could obstruct the path. Rearrange furniture if you think it’s necessary to make plenty of space. And make sure there’s a lot of elbow room around the furnace for the technicians to work.
Finally, keep your pets completely separate from the area where people will be moving and working. You don’t want to slow the process down by creating an adorable distraction. And we certainly don’t want to accidentally step on the paw of a curious pet.
